Event Description

The local Eugene/Springfield branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in partnership with the City of Eugene presents the 20th Annual ACT-SO Talent Competition at the Shedd Institute for the Arts in Eugene. Admission is free. ACT-SO is an acronym for Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics.

The ACT-SO program centers around the dedication and commitment of community volunteers and business leaders who serve as mentors and coaches to promote academic and artistic excellence among African-American students. This year ACT-SO students from various Eugene, Bethel and Springfield school districts will compete in: Oratory, Music Vocal Contemporary, Music Vocal Classical, Music Instrumental Classical, Music Instrumental Contemporary, Filmmaking, Poetry, Essay, Drawing, Painting, Photography and Dance.

While I was in Winchester Bay to take sunset photos Sunday night, I saw such a huge number of seagulls soaring very high in the sky. There were tens of thousands of them and they were flying hundreds of feet in the air.

I always enjoy attending these reenactments. Especially since at one time I was a member of this group. A really nice bunch of people.
