Event Description

One way to beat the heat this summer is to go swimming. Nine girls from Oakridge have been swimming for 6-7 hours a day for four weeks polishing their synchronized swim routines for their upcoming performance. Kicks, splashes, strokes, holding their breath, are all timed to music that they sometimes can’t hear when they are under the water. But they keep counting and the legs emerge pointing straight up into the sky right on the beat.

One of only two synchronized swim clubs in Oregon, the Oakridge Synchronized Swim Club is approaching their 2009 performance on Aug. 15 at 9:00 p.m. at the home of Coach Ranel Curl, 76504 Poplar Street, in Oakridge. Doors open at 8:30 for the performance. Bring your own chair. Refreshments provided at intermission. The performance is after dark to enhance the underwater lighting. All of the moves and strokes are visible from the pool deck. There is no charge for the performance.

Nine girls are on the team this year swimming to music from Robin Hood, Grease, and the Passion of the Christ. Beauty, grace, tempo, and rhythm are all on display, Saturday, Aug. 15, in Oakridge.

For more information, contact Ranel Curl at 541-782-2571.

While I was in Winchester Bay to take sunset photos Sunday night, I saw such a huge number of seagulls soaring very high in the sky. There were tens of thousands of them and they were flying hundreds of feet in the air.

I always enjoy attending these reenactments. Especially since at one time I was a member of this group. A really nice bunch of people.
