Event Description

Since 2005, local dance company, Dance Northwest, has produced the annual event, "Down 4 It,” bringing together over 100 local and regional performers to enhance the lives of our community members through dance. The goal of “Down 4 It” is to help support organizations such as Womenspace, Food for Lane County, and currently, To Write Love on Her Arms, while also providing an artistic outlet for those involved.

This year’s benefit event beings together a hip, energetic, congregation of Northwest talent from Eugene to Portland, with dance styles ranging from street to lyrical. Performing will be Dance Northwest, joined by student dancers from Lane Community College; one of Eugene’s favorite old school and break crew, RAWK, directed by Chris Gorney; the hard hitting, ZAPP, directed by Cindy Zreliak, Lisa Gilliams’s sassy Urban Pulse; Nathan Boozer’s dynamic company, Work; multi-faceted Phenomenon, directed by Vanessa Martin; Eileen King’s fast paced, high energy company, King’s Krew; Portland’s Push Jones co-directed by Evie Graham and Allison Franco, as well as Kristina Santo’s contemporary company, Lyrik.

I always enjoy attending these reenactments. Especially since at one time I was a member of this group. A really nice bunch of people.

Katie McNutt, an elementary school teacher at Hoover Elementary School in Corvallis, has been named the third term recipient of the 2012/2013 Education Celebration Award, presented by the Oregon College Savings Plan.
