Schools closed Tuesday by flu will re-open Wednesday
Following new recommendations from the Oregon Public Health Division and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Lane County Public Health officials are not currently advising school closures for suspected or confirmed cases of H1N1 Influenza. State health officials report that the severity of virus appears similar to seasonal influenza and have revised recommendations. Closures will not be advised unless there is a magnitude of faculty or student absenteeism that interferes with the school’s ability to function. Lane County Public Health officials met with Eugene School District 4J and Oak Hill School officials today, determining all previously closed schools – this includes Oak Hill School, Kelly Middle School, Harris/Eastside Elementary School, and Charlemagne French Immersion School at Fox Hollow – will reopen tomorrow. Public Health continues to encourage all community members to take steps to protect their health and protect the health of our community by “slowing the spread” of this influenza virus. As of this afternoon, there are five (5) confirmed cases, two (2) probable cases, one (1) suspect case, and there are three (3) people who are contacts of probables and are ill, but no lab work has conducted yet. |
