Weather Service: Thunderstorms in rural Lane, Linn counties

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The National Weather Service reports strong thunderstorms capable of producing hail up to one-half inch in diamater along with heavy rain and lightning are move through rural parts of southeastern Linn County and northeastern Lane County.

"If threatening weather approaches your area," the Weather Service advises, "take shelter in a sturdy building."

The weather advisory is in effect until 5:30 p.m. July 29.
 
At 4:49 p.m., doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 6 miles east of Tombstone Summit, about 24 miles south of Detroit moving south at 5 mph.

The KVAL Newsroom has received reports of hail and rain on Highway 126 east of Springfield and south of Santiam Pass.

While I was in Winchester Bay to take sunset photos Sunday night, I saw such a huge number of seagulls soaring very high in the sky. There were tens of thousands of them and they were flying hundreds of feet in the air.
