Police: Motorcycle passing on right hits car turning right

ADAIR VILLAGE, Ore. - A motorcyclist and his passenger crashed when the bike tried to pass a car on the right on Highway 99 as the car made a righthand turn, Oregon State Police said.

According to Sergeant Mike Iwai, on May 20, 2013 at approximately 12:25 p.m., a 1998 Honda Accord driven by

Rachelle Collier, 29, of Albany was northbound on Hwy 99 in a 1998 Honda Accord when she signaled and slowed to turn right onto Ryals Avenue, according to Sgt. Mike Iwai.

John D. Whitewater Jr, 18, was behind the Honda on a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Troopers said Whitewater attempted to pass the Honda on the right as the car turn.

The motorcycle collided with the car, ejecting Whitewater and his 14-year-old female passenger as the bike crashed into the grass along the side of the highway, state police said.

Whitewater was seriously injured and transported by Corvallis Fire Department ambulance to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.

His 14-year old female passenger received minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to the same hospital where she was treated and released.

Both were wearing protective helmets.

Collier and her 3-week infant passenger were not injured.
