Eugene men charged with Florence burglary

Two Eugene men faces burglary and theft charges after a deputy stopped to check on their vehicle and discovered property traced to a breakin in Florence, Ore.

A deputy patroling in the Elkton area of Douglas County noticed a suspicious vehicle parked at Bunch Bar landing on Highway 38 around 7:20 a.m. Friday.

The deputy contacted two men the vehicle, Kenneth Simmons and Kyle Lowry. After speaking with the men, the deputy obtained consent to search their 1994 Chevrolet Blazer.

Inside the vehicle, deputies located a large amount of property, including clothing, jewelry, stereo equipment, a computer -- and a small amount of methamphetamine.

Deputies were able to trace the property to the owners of a residence on Siltcoos Station Road in Florence, Ore.

Deputies learned the owners of the residence were out of town. Deputies went to the residence and discovered it had been recently burglarized.

Simmons and Lowry were lodged in the Douglas County jail on suspicion of First Degree Burglary, First Degree Theft, Possession of Burglars Tools, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, First Degree Criminal Mischief and Parole Violation.

The value of the stolen property is over $3,000.
