With the low snow levels, Kim and Terry Leo of Florence, Ore., went cross country-skiing at the top of Mary's Peak west of Corvallis last Sunday.
"We could see Mount St. Helens to the north and Mount Ashland to the south. Looking to the West you could see the glow of the ocean on the horizon," Terry said. "Living in Florence, it was so cool to be able to go there instead of two more hours east. The views are better then anything I have seen in the Cascades."
While skiing on Mary's Peak, they saw kids with sleds and one guy with a snowboard.
"The snowboard guy was telling me that before there was so much snow they closed the road," Terry said. "He wished it was open all the time."
"This is a under-used gem -- especially when there is snow on it," Terry said.
