Thurston High grad wins gold at word cycling championships

A 2000 Thurston High School graduate and her teammate won their second gold medal in cycling at the 2009 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Karissa Whitsell, 28, of Eugene, Ore., and teammate Mackenzie Woodring of Grand Rapids, Mich., won the gold in the blind/visually impaired road race on Sunday.

On Friday, Sept. 11, the pair won the gold in the time trial, a race against the clock.
