Springfield honors student artists

The Springfield Education Foundation (SEF) will honor the 19 students whose artwork was selected for the 2009–10 Student Art Calendar at Young Artist Celebration 2009 on Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 4:30–6:00 p.m. at the Richard E. Wildish Community Theater, 630 Main St., Springfield.

The event is free and open to the public. Replicas of student artwork will be on sale at the event for $20 each. Friends, family and community members are invited to help celebrate these talented students. Refreshments will be served.

The artists Megan Reynolds, Springfield High School, grade 10; Kate Romig, Brattain Elementary School, grade 1; Alysa Stein, Thurston Middle School, grade 8; Abby Love, Thurston High School, grade 12; Joshua Goss, Camp Creek Elementary School, grade 5; Brianna Whittaker, Thurston High School, grade 12; Thanh Nguyen, Moffitt Elementary School, grade 4; Macklee Jorkan, Hamlin Middle School, grade 7; Lily Jaques, Walterville School, grade K; Carlos Delgado, Guy Lee Elementary School, grade 2; Brinnan Middleton, Thurston High School, grade 11; Brianna Butler, Yolanda Elementary School, grade 4; Hannah Norman, Mohawk Elementary School, grade 5; Sam Pedersen, Springfield High School, grade 10; Clara McElhinny, Camp Creek Elementary School, grade 4; Jaelynne Birkby, Yolanda Elementary School, grade 1; Kahlee Madrid, Agnes Stewart Middle School, grade 7; Christina Bergman, Walterville School, grade 8; Ana Sanchez, Hamlin Middle School, grade 8.

The 16-month student art calendars are sold each year to raise money for SEF programs, which include classroom mini-grants, literacy programs and more. Artwork is solicited from K-12 students throughout the district each spring, and the selected works are printed in the calendar. This year's calendars will be for sale at the event at a cost of $10. Calendars are also available at the district's Administration Building.
