Eugene Skin Divers Supply dives against debris

Local scuba divers and Eugene Skin Divers Supply will Dive Against Debris this Sunday, Sept. 18 at Hayden Bridge, McKenzie River in Springfield. As part of Eugene Skin Divers Supply's commitment to protecting the waterways, trained divers not only remove underwater debris such as plastic bottles, glass, cans, tires, appliances, etc., but also identify and document everything seen underwater in a larger effort to prevent marine debris.

Marine debris – or our trash in the water – makes its way to our underwater environments by the ton. Eugene Skin Divers Supply along with divers around the world are demanding a permanent reduction in and prevention of the garbage we create that damages sensitive marine ecosystems, even in some of the most remote corners of the globe.

"Many people get to see and enjoy our waterways, oceans, lakes and rivers from above, but we divers are blessed to be able to see the wonderful underwater world" says Jim Emery, Event Organizer, McKenzie River Cleanup.

Scuba divers are uniquely positioned to tackle the global marine debris issue, to take action every day and prevent debris from entering the ocean. For more information on the McKenzie River Cleanup effort contact Eugene Skin Divers Supply at 541-342-2351.

"Keeping our local community waters clean is very important to keep divers diving locally," says Ron Vearrier, Course Director, Eugene Skin Divers Supply.

"The Dive Against Debris effort with Project AWARE allows us to give back to our community in an extremely valuable way," says Aleisha Scott, PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, Eugene Skin Divers Supply.

Dive Against Debris, organized worldwide by Project AWARE Foundation, a nonprofit organization mobilizing divers to protect the ocean, has an underwater approach that's totally unique. It's a year-rough, citizen science program to tackle trash beneath the surface and address its negative impacts.
