New Super Bowl 3D ads put your eyes to the test

Super Bowl XLIII commercials are going 3D. Well at least two of them are. Pepsi and Dreamworks Animations are debuting 3D ads during the game. Dr. Marusich said watching these ads can be fun and a time for screening.
"People whose brains can listen to both eyes at the same time and compare that information, will see the image float out from the screen towards them. And if they cover one eye it'll go flat," said Marusich.
Dr. Marusich has been practicing for 28 years in Eugene. She specializes in pediatrics and vision therapy. She said by watching the 3D commercials, people will be able to identify if they have binocular problems.
She said the most common binocular conditions can be seen in both adults and children. And it's never too late to fix a problem if it is caught early.
"Amblyopia is a condition where one eye doesn't see as clearly as the other eye. Your eyes may be straight or wandering but one eye isnt sending the proper information to the brain so your brain can't appreciate stereo depth," said Marusich.
The other problem is strabismus. People with this problem may see clearly but their eyes don't line up.
She said, "The brain is getting information. From one eye but suppressing it from the other. They have to work and compare things simultaneously."
Dr. Marusich said the best way to detect a problem with your vision while viewing a 3D image, is to cover and uncover a eye and see if the image changes. If the image remains flat, you may have a problem.
3D glasses are available at participating grocery stores near their Sobe displays and at Target.
