With the polls closing in about two hours, the democrat incumbent in the governor's race and his republican challenger are starting to wind down after making last minute campaign stops.

Governor Ted Kulongoski and challenger Ron Saxton have been spending countless hours clocking miles around the state to try and get out the vote. Tuesday in the ninth hour, Republican Ron Saxton made stops in Bend and Eugene to thank the Lane County campaign volunteers. The weather prevented him from making a stop in Medford. Saxton brought lunch to the volunteers at the Lane County Republican's phone bank in North Eugene.

He says a quarter of the registered voters still haven't voted. So, they have phone banks going still in 15 to 20 places around the state. He says, "We want to give people every opportunity to make up their minds and remind them to vote." Saxton will be at the Hilton Hotel in Portland Tuesday night to watch the election results.

Meanwhile, Governor Kulongoski spent this election day making several stops with Senator Ron Wyden. They greeted UPS workers and commuters in the morning, and then stopped off at the Democratic Headquarters to thank the volunteers.

Kulongoski praised volunteers for helping get out the vote for the democrats. He says the election division has been coordinating an effort to help different people get ballots. He says they actually go out and get ballots and bring them in.

Governor Kulongoski will also be in Portland Election night to watch the results roll in.

Of course, the polls have shown this race to be a close one. So, the it will most likely be late Tuesday night when the projected winner is announced.
