EUGENE, Ore -- "Look at the fruit! I could totally dress like a fruit," yelled a member of the parade-watching crowd as an orange, watermelon slice and green bunch of grapes passed by.
That was just before the Slug Queen made her appearance, smiling and waving at her adoring fans while Representative Peter DeFazio followed behind as her "slime scoooper." A group of family nudists then walked by wearing smiley face sandwich boards over togas. Close behind a dog shaved like a lion marched proudly in front of its tie-dyed t-shirt-wearing human.
This is the Eugene Celebration Parade. Anything goes.

With a theme of Raise the Roof, participants and watchers laughed and danced together during Saturday’s sunny parade.
The Eugene Celebration is an annual three-day event held in downtown Eugene. It started in 1983 as a way to bring together the downtown community. The festival features bands from throughout the Pacific Northwest and usually draws tens of thousands of people.
One of the yearly highlights is the Sustainability Village. You can find it on Saturday and Sunday at 10th and Olive. Organizers say the Sustainability Village highlights “businesses, organizations and innovations that are making significant strides toward a more sustainable lifestyle in our area.”
