What did they want to say to the folks back home?
They miss family, friends - and football.
"Hi mom, dad, love you guys," LCpl Kimberly Burrows of Albany said. "Look forward to seeing you soon."
"I'd like to send a shout out to my mom and dad in Lebanon, Ore. Miss you guys. Looking forward to getting home," Cpl Dawson Griffith said. "I'd also like to send a shoutout to the boys at Knox Construction. I'm looking forward to working with you again."
"I just want to let America know you can continue to sleep safely because us here at Alpha Company are providing a shield of freedome for you," Tyler Hills of Eugene said.
The Oregon Civil War is going to be keenly watched - if they can get it.
"You miss the weekends and the Mirror Pond and the pizza," said Beaver fan Cpl Eric Boyden of Salem, Ore.
"We caught up with the Arizona game, which they won. That was a nice change of pace for the Beavers," he said, then added, "it's Arizona - it's like pistol whipping a blanket ..."
Duck fans are serving overseas, too.
"My dad sent me some pictures. I'm just really excited about the season, I think this is going to be a good year for them," said Sgt. Kevin Houser of Bend, Ore. "I like the spread offense. Keep it up, Chip Kelly.
"I've got to watch one game. I got to watch them beat Stanford," House said. "It was on at 4 in the morning. So worth it."
