SWEET HOME, Ore. – A landslide dumped mud, rock and over a dozen large trees on the Santiam Highway between Sweet Home and Santiam Junction, forcing motorists to detour around the blockage.

The slide deposited 150 cubic yards of mud, rock and debris on the highway at Milepost 44, just east of Cascadia. The slide also left 12 to 14 large trees uprooted on the highway, the Oregon Department of Transportation reported.

The slide will result in an extended closure of the highway. | Current

Eastbound motorists should use Oregon Route 22 or Oregon Route 126 to access Santiam Pass and points east.

Westbound motorists will be detoured onto Oregon Route 126, otherwise known as the Clear Lake-Belknap Springs Highway, for points west.
