Crews make progress on roads damaged by rain
SWEET HOME, Ore. - Crews have re-opened the Santiam Highway US 20 where a landslide blocked the road with mud, rocks and more than a dozen large trees.
To the west, crews now have Oregon Highway 22W to a single lane of travel after 50 feet of the westbound lane eroded away with the weekend's heavy rains between Sheridan, Ore., and the Oregon Coat.
Flaggers will control travel in alternating directions through the night and into Tuesday.
Motorists should remain mindful that the hillsides are saturated from heavy rains, ODOT said. Motorists should travel alertly at reduced speeds and be ready to respond to slide activity or eroded roadways.
Reports of high water over the road remain up and down Highway 101 on the coast from south of Waldport to Seaside.
