The details surrounding the death of the then 21-year-old Boise man were so graphic that people even today still call the home the Murder House - Boise's own Amityville horror story.
Until now very few people have actually known the full story surrounding this nightmarish crime.
It was on June, 30 1987 where Murr was shot and killed overnight in the basement of this home. His body was dismembered and then thrown into Brownlee Reservoir near Weiser. Two men where convicted of the crime, Daniel Rogers and Daron Cox, but only one was given a life sentence.
Cox served six years for his involvement in the murder while Rogers remains at the Idaho Correctional Center south of Boise.
"A lot of people are very afraid of that house and some swear it is haunted and I have had so many people come by and want tours of that place," said Deann Davis, who lived there a few years ago.
Still the mystery and the legend have grown.
“Two decades later we went back to the gruesome murder and we were able to uncover the true story of the events that surround the death of Preston,” said KBOI2 News Reporter Jennifer Mcgraw.
Here's KBOI-TV's coverage of the murder back in 1987.
