Eugene Marathon: Race day tips for runners
By KVAL Web StaffEUGENE, Ore. - Ready for the Eugene Marathon? Here are some tips to help you survive race day. First, plan ahead. Set out your shoes, clothes, bib number and everything else you need the night before. Second, don't try anything new. If you want to wear a new shirt or try an energy gel, make sure you've tested it ahead of time. Eat breakfast. Aim for about 500 calories of easy to digest food like bagels. And eat during your race. If you're running or walking for more than 90 minutes, you'll need to eat 100 calories per hour to stay energized. Also, stay hydrated. Drink five ounces of liquid every half an hour. An ounce equals about a gulp. Try water and energy drinks, and be careful not to over hydrate. Do not drink if your stomach is uncomfortably full. |
