Ballots due back May 20
By KVAL Web StaffLane County ballots go in the mail Friday, May 2, 2008. Lane County voters will receive their ballots starting Saturday, May 3, through Wednesday, May 7. Need a map of ballot drop sites? Wonder what to do if you receive two separate ballots? Why do Republicans and Democrats get two ballots? How much postage do you need to vote by mail? Where can I find the Voters' Pamphlet? Ballots are due to one of the drop sites below by 8 p.m. on May 20. If you do not see a Google map, click here. View Larger Map If a voter does not receive a ballot for the current election, they need to contact Lane County Elections at (541) 682-4234 to determine if they need to update their voter registration to still receive a ballot. What ballots will voters receive? Oregon has what is called a Closed Primary so not everyone receives the same ballots. It is past the deadline to change party affiliation. Voters who changed party affiliation near the deadline could receive two ballots, mailed separately from the county. Only vote one of these two ballots. Do not confuse the above situation with the different ballots that Democrats and Republicans receive in the same envelope. If registered as a Democrat, voter will receive two ballots; one ballot includes both nominating candidates for the Democratic Party and nonpartisan offices and measures, and one separate paper ballot that includes the Democratic Party Precinct Committee people. If registered as a Republican, voter will receive two ballots; one includes both nominating candidates for the Republican Party and nonpartisan offices and measures, and one separate paper ballot that includes the Republican Party Precinct Committee people. If registered to any other party, including Non-Affiliated, voter will receive one ballot with nonpartisan offices and measures. Registered Democrats and Republicans who return both ballots will need to include additional postage, as the combined weight is over an ounce. To avoid paying additional postage, voters may drop off their ballots at one of the many official drop locations. Use this map to get directions from your home. All ballot drop locations will be open to receive voted ballots as early as May 2 and up to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2008 Election Day. Lane County Elections is located at 275 W. 10th Ave., on the corner of 10th and Lincoln in downtown Eugene. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. On Election Day, May 20, 2008 the office will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters should anticipate longer lines at the elections office the Monday before and through Election Day, so are urged to resolve any voter registration or ballot voting matters as timely as possible. |
