PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Senator Hillary Clinton told an audience of doctors, parents and sick children in Portland that her position on universal health care sets her apart from rival Barack Obama.

Campaigning just a few miles from his Democratic rival today in Portland, Obama largely ignored Clinton, instead behaving like a general election candidate by focusing on the likely Republican nominee John McCain.

Obama appears tonight in Eugene. His speech will be streamed live on KVAL.com.

Obama told workers at a software company that McCain is "dead wrong" to say the economy has made "great progress" under President Bush. He asked, "Is there anyone outside of Washington, D.C. who could truly believe that?"

When asked about Clinton, Obama offered more praise than criticism. He called her ``an extraordinary candidate'' and public servant.

When he was asked if he might want her to be his running mate, Obama said it would be presumptuous to speculate because he hasn't yet won the nomination.

Clinton is hoping to keep her bid for the Democratic presidential nomination alive with a win, or at least a better-than-expected showing in Oregon's May 20 primary.

"If you don't start in favor of universal health care, you'll never get there," Clinton said. "How can you run for the Democratic nomination and not have a universal health care plan?"

Ballots are due back May 20. For details and drop box locations, click here.
