EUGENE, Ore. - The tale of a cat stuck in a tree for almost six days has a purr-fect ending.
Lumpy the cat is back on the ground now, but it wasn't an easy ride. If she still had nine lives, she's down to eight now.
Her tough time started May 8 when she climbed up an 80-foot tree - and wouldn't come down.
"I think it was a dog in the neighborhood," said Rebecca Hill, Lumpy's owner. "There's a lot of dogs that go for walks around here, and I think she just got scared and kept going up."
By day six of Lumpy's adventure, Hill was scared and decided enough was enough.
"We tried calling every fire station in town," she said. "I tried putting food at the bottom of the tree. I tried spraying the hose up there to scare her down."
Then an arborist at Sperry Tree Care agreed to donate his time and help Lumpy.
Lumpy wasn't sure she wanted to be rescued. When the arborist climbed the tree, a spooked Lumpy ran to the end of the limb - and fell.
Lumpy is fine now, just hiding under the house.
"I think she's glad to be down on the ground," Hill said.
It's a happy ending for Hill, Lumpy and the arborist they think is the cat's meow.
The lesson in all of this?
"Don't climb a tree you can't get out of!" Hill said.
