Obama addresses 'dust-up' with Bush, McCain over foreign policy
Sen. Barack Obama spoke at a rally in Roseburg, Ore., on Saturday, May 17. By Tom AdamsROSEBURG, Ore. - Presidential hopefuls and their families are canvassing Oregon this weekend trying to grab last minute votes before Tuesday's mail-in primary. Sen. Barack Obama rolled into Roseburg Saturday, May 17, for a town hall meeting. He touched on a lot of hot-button issues with a crowd of about 1,500 at Roseburg High School. Obama promised to provide universal health care. He also drew big cheers when he talked about propping up rural economies in places like Douglas County. The Democrat spent some time talking about the "dust-up" a day earlier between him and President Bush and Sen. John McCain over foreign policy. "If George Bush and John McCain have a problem with direct diplomacy led by the President of the United States, then they can explain why they have a problem with John F. Kennedy because that's what he did with Khrushchev - or Ronald Reagan because that's what he did with Gorbachev or Richard Nixon because that's what he did with Mao. That's exactly the kind of diplomacy we need to keep us safe," declared Obama.
