Book celebrates Corvallis' 150th anniversary
By Associated PressCORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - A new book called ''The Spirit of Corvallis'' celebrates the city's 150th anniversary with a collection of poetry, images and short stories. The art reflects on the state of the city in 2007. Executive director of Corvallis Tourism, John Hope-Johnstone, organized the book. He said the book is meant to be a record of the life and times of the city for people 50 years in the future who celebrate Corvallis' 200th anniversary. Sale proceeds go toward Benton County Historical Society efforts to build a new museum to hold the Horner Collection. It contains thousands of early Oregon and Corvallis memorabilia. Corvallis Tourism is considering a second printing of the book and a box set edition later in the year. It will package the book with Morris and Lynn Walker's film documenting Corvallis history.
