EUGENE, Ore. - Fire officials came up with an explosive find Thursday - a cache of illegal fireworks.

The bust is the fire marshall's first of the season.

In all, they confiscated 19 cases of fireworks weighing 300 pounds.

"That's a lot of fireworks that are not going to be on the street this season," said Doug Perry, assistant fire marshall.

The fireworks were addressed to Tannerite Explosives. The company had a similar shipment seized four years ago, according to the Eugene Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department.

The fireworks were seized after a trucking company became suspicious of the packages and contacted authorities.

Most of the cases were sent to Salem as evidence, but four were kept in Eugene as examples.

Fire officials said the fireworks are intended for licensed commercial use. The risk with illegal shipments is that they could be purchased by individuals.
