Police ID men found dead outside vacant building

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Two men found dead in a covered area outside a vacant building Thursday likely died from "illegal activity" but not foul play, police said. Police don't think there is a danger to the public.
Police identified the dead men as Stephen Andrew Smith, 24, of Springfield and Timothy Lowe Fleming, 53, of Vida.
A passerby spotted the bodies around noon and thought they were unconscious.
Police said the building is a known camping site for transients.
The medical examiner was expected to look at the bodies Friday.
Yes At least they Didn't Die Alone as Many of Us Do, There are those Of Us that Care I am Homeless and I personally Knew Both Steven And Tim I Loved and Cared For both Men Like Brothers and While Others care Little Above everything else They where Men and It is Bad enough To be set upon By the Judgement Of others In life But To be Judged In death Beware You who do Judge will Be met with The same Judgement, Â Steven, Tim I and Many others Will Miss You. You were Friends!!!Â
I'm surprised that they even put this in the news. After all these are homeless people no really gives two Sh*** about any of them. They are to be put up with not cared about.Â
When with Eugene and Springfield put out some real money and continue to fund a permanent fix? How long do these men, women, children and Veterans have to suffer?
Both cities could do this if they really wanted to, they just don't want to. Of course the majority of the public don't really give two Sh*** either...Â
I believe almost everyone likes to see help for the poor and unfortunate people. The problem is like everything else these days, who is truthful, who is committing fraud. I recall an article sometime back about a homeless sign holder who was found dead, and when his vehicle was searched they found $75,000 in cash and drugs. Disabilities are and have been on the increase the last 10 years at an astonishing rate, and a good number of these are fraud. Some people can be given help and they will be up and going from then on. Others when given help, use it up and get back in line. I don't know of an answer to this problem until we get Government out of the equation. Sure it will be tough for awhile, but then the private sector will be back to taking care of it's own. Keep on as we are going and the food lines will get longer and more costly.
@souptonuts ---just don't focus too much on the drug dealer fronting himself off as a homeless person. Ronald Reagan used such an example of a black woman driving a cadillac around with hundreds of cascaded ID theft welfare checks she had scammed. This woman was his poster child to cut as many welfare entitlements as possible. No more food stamps to the poorest college students. No more SS benefits to college students of a deceased parent, etc.Â
A lot of people holding their hand out, are/were victims of fraud (like from the elitist banking-real estate system itself) not perpetrators of fraud.Â
@peace @souptonuts I try not to focus totally on any subject and the only agenda I have in this world in the few years I have left is to try and get as much truth and honor back into the equation as possible. I never said that all homeless are committing fraud, that is just something you came up with. I also don't know how Ronald Reagan got into the comment either. Government is rarely the answer for anything other than National Defense, and sometimes I wonder about that. Government has proven time and again that they fail at most things, especially managing our money. If you want to go back and place blame on a good share of the foreclosures and the like, you can again blame government for making the rules such that people who had no hope of paying back a mortgage to start with got loans that were doomed on the day of signing. A hand up is a whole lot different than a hand out.
At least they didn't die alone.
@IAMHIGHÂ ---and they probably died with a smile on their face. Glad that stuff isn't lying around in my crib during the cabin fever season.
@peace @IAMHIGH I've got plenty of greens ta last all winter=) or cookies take your pick. and you eat from the inside out and buy the time spring gets here you hopefully only weigh 250 to 300 lbs.
@IAMHIGH @peace ---No thanks, heroin and meth is all I need for my 6-pack abs. while working as a granny digger gigalo to make my rent.
Yeah and not one person (other than family) gives two Sh*** about these homeless guys, before or after their deaths! They don't count, they don't matter. The lame stream media would never do a story about their lives because they and no one else cares who they were or what their lives were like!
This is the world we live in, and this is the kind of people we have in this country, especially the media!
@Postone You're going on a tirade about people not caring about the homeless on an article about people who likely overdosed. They're not just down on their luck.. they're junkies. And nope, can't say I care very much about that. I don't see what you're complaining about though, because people seem to care about the homeless very much. Food for Lane county is one of the most popular charities in this area, there are constantly articles about homeless initiatives, there was an article about people donating a ton of coats, socks, etc. to the police to hand out to the homeless, plenty of people volunteer at the mission, soup kitchens, etc. And quite frankly, as a nation, we care about our homeless a heck of a lot more than most countries... and this area cares about homeless a heck of a lot more than most other places in the nation.
@PleaseBeSmart @Postone ---I lived in a country where food banks and soup kitchens are nowhere to be found unless there is a disaster, and even then there is no such thing as FEMA for people w/o disaster insurance.
@Postone ---it can be an awful cold, cold world too often. But, there are people who care. I was at the food bank last Wed. in Eugene, and saw a dozen people on the front lines handing out food to the homeless as volunteers MWF 11-1pm. And then there are food drives from the community that get it there in the first place. Some of them little kids that ride a school bus and go door to door on can drives.
I think the reason the police and the media don't expand on the story is because heroin junkies in the neighborhood is not something the community wants to share with real estate speculators and insurance companies. Some people (NIMBYs) are adverse to having a food bank nearby, because of the traffic it attracts.
No need to air the dirty laundry for all to see. A little discreet censorship can be quite utilitarian for the masses.Â
Sure is a lot of heroin in this town. Â There are better ways to stay warm, like using their last $ to find a wool blanket.
SPringfield needs more homeless hotels(camps) like Eugene so they can do their drugs in comfort. These poor guys could have done a lot more drugs if only they had a warm comfortable taxpayer paid spot to do so.

@Postone Chill with the name calling please.
@PleaseBeSmart @slumlord420 ---PBS can use her spoonerisms and justÂ
"peace" on me anytime. LOL! :DÂ
@slumlord420Â LOL. A play on someone's name is not against the terms of use. Especially given that balderdash simply means nonsense. :)
@PleaseBeSmart @Postone Name calling, like Balderdash?
