The major crimes team has taken over the case and the Oregon State Police Crime Lab has arrived to do a thorough investigation.

A man has been reported dead, but no names have been released at this time.

Neighbor Alicia Winters, who lives across the street from the house on Mardonna, says that a couple lives there with their two children. She says she was the first to hear noise coming from the residence.

"I think I was the first to hear everything at 2:30 this morning. I heard a thump real loud, and I thought maybe it was a bird that hit the window so I just laid back down and five minutes later, I just heard noise in the street, so I just look at the window and it was all the police cars here."

Winters says she talked to the family on several occasions and said they were really nice people. She can't believe this happened so close to her home.

"I was kinda nervous, I've been awake since 2:30, I laid back down but I couldn't sleep. So I got up again, and it's too scary, right here in your face just about."

Lt. John Hanlin from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office says that officers will be interviewing several people throughout the day.

SUTHERLIN, Ore. - Reports came into the Douglas County Dispatch center around 3 a.m. Thursday morning saying there was a shooting at the corner of First and Mardonna street.

The Douglas County Major Crimes Team, Sutherlin Police, Roseburg Police, the Sheriffs Department and OSP were all on scene.

Lt. John Hanlin says Sutherlin Police responded to a report of a trespass. Hanlin says there was a shooting, and one man was found dead in the residence when police arrived.
