Shoe-perstitious about feet?
Shoes worn by Steve Prefontaine are part of the exhibit. By Tom Adams and KVAL Web StaffEUGENE, Ore. - The upcoming U.S. olympic Trials will feature the latest and greatest shoe technology. Make tracks for the Univeristy of Oregon to discover the real "sole" of shoes. "Walk a Mile in These Shoes" showcases 200 pairs of shoes in an exhibit at the Museum of Natural and Cultural history. "It features not only great things for track fans, but kind of the story of shoes from all across time, all across the world," said Ann Craig with the museum. Craig said shoes tell the stories of people in a way that few possessions can. "If you come down and zoom in you can get a really good look and see some of the numbers that are hand written on the shoes," Craig said. Just a few feet away, the exhibit features shoes worn by people who may have been the first Oregonians: ancient sandals from the Fort Rock area. "They're all different sizes. They're all different styles, but it's just incredible that they're all 9,000 to 10,000 years old," Craig said. The collection also features some famous feet. From UO basketball coach Ernie Kent's size 14s to boots from a member of the rock band KISS, this part is the VIP section. "You can really understand a lot more about culture, about people, about the study of people by looking at their shoes," Craig said. "Walk a Mile in These Shoes" is featured at the Natural and Cultural History Museum through August 28. |
