Men swim to shore after boat hits log
The sheriff's marine patrol assisted in the rescue.

EUGENE, Ore. -- Three men swam ashore after their boat hit a log and capsized on the McKenzie River Monday morning.

Walter Barger, 63, of Portland,Ore.; Richard Brooks, 66, of Springfield, Ore.; and Brady Brooks, 38, of Sacaramento, Calif., had life jackets on board but were not wearing them, according to the Lane County Sheriff's Office.

All three on board were able to swim to a gravel bar. Search and rescue, marine deputies and McKenzie Fire and Rescue assisted in rescuing and transporting the three to Bellinger Landing. One of the subjects’s was treated for minor injuries and released.
