EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- Nick Symmonds, Andrew Wheating and Christian Smith have qualified for the U.S. Olympic team in the men's 800 meters.

Wheating, from Oregon, and Symmonds, a graduate of Willamette University in Salem who now lives in Eugene, got one of the biggest ovations of the track trials when they crossed the finish line 1-2 on Monday night.

Smith, a member of the Oregon Track Club, beat out four-time national champion Khadevis Robinson for the third spot in an upset. Robinson was trying to make his second Olympics.
