A Corvallis man died early Friday morning when his car was struck by a small pickup on Highway 99W near Corvallis.  Two others were injured and the investigation is continuing.

According to Oregon State Police Sergeant Craig Flierl, on July 18 at approximately 12:14 a.m., a 2003 Chevrolet D10 pickup driven by Aaron James Veden, 21, from Corvallis was southbound on Highway 99W near milepost 77 when it crossed the centerline into the northbound lane.

A 1990 Geo Storm driven by Awad Mohamed Elgarguri, 49, from Corvallis was northbound and attempted to avoid the oncoming pickup.  The Geo was struck in the driver's side by the pickup.

Awad Elarguri was pronounced deceased at the scene.  His passenger, his son Arubahr Elgarguri, 16, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis with minor injuries.

Veden was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  He was using safety restraints and his pickup's airbags deployed.

OSP troopers from the Albany Area Command office are continuing the investigation.  Fatigue is a possible contributing factor in Veden's driving.

Benton County Sheriff's Office, Corvallis Fire Department and ODOT assisted at the scene.  Highway 99W northbound lane was closed about four hours as traffic was routed through using the southbound lane.
