EUGENE, Ore. - Kera Brakefield is still fired up after what appeared to be the perfect summer job turned out to be the perfect summer scam.

Here's what happened:

Brakefield was looking for a job. She went to MySpace, clicked on jobs and searched for anything in Eugene.

A man who appeared to be a reverend was looking for someone to watch his two young girls. He said he would be in town for a few weeks -- but he wouldn't answer a lot of questions.

"There were little bits and pieces that just weren't right," said Brakefield. "And then when they sent me way too much money in money grams, I knew something was wrong."

The man wanted Brakefield to send the extra money back to him.

"I told her to watch it, check everything out," said Brakefield's mom Tracy Allen. "As it progressed, more suspicious things came up."

After some research Brakefield and her mom found out there was no reverend and no job. Those money grams were fake. And if Brakefield had cashed them, she'd be on the hook. They almost fell victim to a serial scammer.

"A bunch of people were talking about another name of a reverend, scamming in California and in Texas," said Brakefield.
