EUGENE, Ore. -- Fires along almost 50 miles of Interstate 5 between Eugene and Salem kept firefighters scrambling as one fire after another ignited.

Approximately 20 acres of brush, grass, and trees burned through Wednesday evening before fire crews got the blazes under control.

Authorities initially believed a hay truck spread the fire while burning and traveling north. The truck is now believed to have been ignited by one of the fires along the interstate.

Officials do not have a cause for the fires yet.

Traffic became a mess as fire crews worked on getting the blazes under control and ODOT crews worked to keep motorists moving by putting detours in place and closing some lanes.

Grass, brush and tree fires were reported in multiple locations from mile post 190 through mile post 238 along I-5. Two truck fires were reported, but KVAL.com has only confirmed one truck fire.
