MARCOLA, Ore. - A small Oregon town was hoping to stop a big time corporation. But it looks like it was too little too late.

Timber companies Weyerhaeuser and Seneca recently sent out letters to Marcola residents saying they were going to spray hundreds of areas. That spraying took place this Tuesday. Even so, some residents said the spraying was too close to Marcola Elementary School. According to the Oregon Toxics Alliance, Twin Oaks and Lorane Elementary Schools were also too close to the spraying area.

Even though her granddaughter is years away from starting school, Karen Asai said she's worried about her family's health.

"I'm right at the foot of the clear cut," said Asai. "If these chemicals come into the watershed, I'm concerned about the safety of our well when I make her formula and we have a coy pond."

To be fair, KVAL News called Weyerhaeuser for comment.

"Weyehaeuser's vegetation program follows all state and federal laws including stringent label use laws by the E.P.A.," said Pubic Affairs Manager Greg Miller.

Weyerhaeuser also said they talked to all the adjacent neighbors before they sprayed.
