Hunter pleads guilty to illegally killing bull elk
By Associated PressPORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A hunter accused of illegally killing a bull elk in eastern Oregon pleaded guilty to federal felony wildlife charges Monday. Ronald Ray Jurin of Redding, Calif., has been ordered to pay $50,000 and serve three years' probation for the 2006 hunting crimes committed in La Grande. Jurin has also agreed to never hunt or fish again in Oregon. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the 37-year-old hunter did not have proper hunting tags to hunt and kill the elk Oregon's Wenaha Hunt Unit. Tags for killing elk in the unit go to fewer than 1 percent of applicants. Federal prosecutors say Jurin also acknowledged committing other hunting crimes in 2006, including hunting three bears before the season began. DO YOU THINK THE PUNISHMENT FIT THE CRIME?
