Meet the candidates, from president to mayor

President of the United States

The major parties nominated Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. The pair debated three times on national television.

Other candidates include Peace Party candidate Ralph Nader and Constitution Party candidate Chuck Baldwin.

Senator from Oregon

Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., faces what could be his closest race yet against Democrat Jeff Merkley, speaker of the state's House of Representatives. The two have staked out their differences on the issues.

Mayor of Eugene

Kitty Piercy seeks her second term against former two-term mayor Jim Torrey. KVAL News asked the candidates a series of questions to help voters better understand who they are and where they stand on topics like jobs, downtown, the West Eugene Parkway and their leadership style.
