Woman left for dead along road talks about ordeal
A pony tail, brightly painted nails, and an infectious laugh: 20-year-old Torey Moore looks like any other college student. By Molly Blancett KVAL NewsCOBURG, Ore. - A pony tail, brightly painted nails, and an infectious laugh: 20-year-old Torey Moore looks like any other college student. But looks can be deceiving. One year ago Monday, Torey was found in the middle of Cal Young Road. Her body was nearly lifeless. No one knows what exactly happened to her because Torey can't remember anything from that night. All they know is that a newspaper carrier found her critically injured. "I've just been trying to get back to normal, trying to put the accident in the back of my mind, not forgetting about it, but not thinking about it," said Torey. How do you recover from that kind of trauma? "It's just been like any other recovery," said Torey. "You just don't think about it. You say it's your new job because it's all that you can do." At one point police called the man who found her a suspect, something Torey and her mom never believed. "He's my guardian angel," said Torey. "He's the one that saved me." "He was a responsible caring citizen that did the right thing and got the short end of the stick," said Torey's mom Terri Morneau. Torey said she still has a long way to go. "I don't have my strength or my balance," said Torey. "Short term memory loss is still there with me." But Torey is making the most of the time she's been given, spending time with her family, working and preparing to start classes at Portland State in the spring. Lane County District Attorney District Attorney Doug Harcleroad said the investigation into what exactly happened to Torey Moore remains open and unsolved. |
