Mother looks for answers in son's disappearance

SWEET HOME, Ore. - A Sweet Home mother is looking for answers after her son went missing over a month ago. Leroy Henderson left his apartment six weeks ago and never returned.
Deputies and police looked for Henderson, but didn't find any clues. Henderson's mom is upset about her son's disappearance. But Friday, Sweet Home Police said when tips stop coming in, there's not a lot they can do. "I just don't know what to do. I'm worried sick. I just thought that if people realized that he hadn't come back, then maybe," said Opal Dotson. Dotson is on a mission to find her missing son. "I don't know if I'm grieving because he's dead, or if he's just gone," said Dotson. Neighbor Dave Kirby said Henderson asked to borrow his car on October 2nd. "He seemed kind of desperate like he needed to go talk to somebody," said Kirby. Kirby handed over the keys, but Henderson never returned home. One week later, a hunter found Kirby's car near McDowell Creek Park, about 15 miles north of Sweet Home. Authorities searched the car and surrounding area, but found nothing. "That's where everything died, right there," said Dotson. Dotson said her son is a recovering addict. "We do know that based on this investigation, that he went to buy drugs," said Detective Cyndi Pichardo, Sweet Home Police Department. Pichardo stressed authorities don't gauge the strength of their search on a person's lifestyle. "When a person is reported as missing, if there is something tangible to follow up on, such as the last place they were, or people they may have been in contact with, we start there," said Pichardo.
So until leads come in- the search for Henderson is at a standstill. "Even though he's a man, he's still my child. And I just want closure. I want to know where he's at," said Dotson. Pichardo also said the more people who know the missing person, the more leads they'll get. That's why, for example, there might be more attention given to a missing college student than an older man. |
