EUGENE, Ore. -- Early morning fog cancelled three flights at the Eugene Airport on Tuesday. Will the weather hamper travel Wednesday, the busiest travel day of the year?

Right now, all planes are scheduled to arrive and depart on time. The best plan for people flying is to check their flight's status online and arrive at the airport early.

Another convenience: the family lane, specially designed to separate families with lots of kids from the line of other travelers. Families often take a bit longer to go through security.

More experienced travelers or those with little or no carry on baggage can go through the other lane, hopefully speeding up the process.

Every airport will have these lanes up this week, but you still need to get to the airport early.

"The three days before Thanksgiving or the weekend after, we say bump it up to that two hour time frame to get here before the flight," said Cathryn Stephens with the Eugene Airport.  "If you're traveling on Thanksgiving or the day after, really 90 minutes is plenty."

Some other things you can do to streamline airport travel:

  • Print your boarding pass and check your flight status online.
  • Follow the 3-1-1 rule for carry on luggage: 3 ounces or smaller containers of liquid in a one-quart size ziploc bag, one bag per passenger. That will save you a lot of hassle in security.
