EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregonians had a little trouble with their turkey and touchdowns last holiday weekend, with football fans getting the boot from the big game and holiday travelers tippling too much booze.

The 112th Civil War showdown between Oregon and Oregon State Saturday ended with 65-38 on the scoreboard -- and 87 people kicked out of Reser Stadium in Corvallis, Ore. More than 50 of those involved alcohol.

Oregon's roads turned into a booze cruise, too, with Oregon sheriff's offices arresting 75 people for drunk driving statewide over the holiday weekend. Oregon State Police trooper rounded up another 53 drivers on suspicion of driving drunk.

The 102-hour Thanksgiving holiday weekend is the longest holiday period of the year for law enforcement, who each year step up efforts to warn the public to drive safely -- then round up the numbers to remind us we can do better.

Holiday driving has serious consequences: this year, at least two people died in motor vehicle accidents. That beats 1973 and 1996, when 11 people died, but falls short of Thanksgiving 1970, when everyone safely made it home for the holidays in Oregon.

The 87 people booted from the record crowd of 46,319 seems small. By comparison, Autzen Stadium ejected 68 people from the Oregon-Stanford game Nov. 8.

But the breakdown of bad behavior reads like, well, a good read:

  • Thirteen people were booted for disorderly conduct.
  • Six people were kicked out for fighting.
  • More than 50 people had problems with alcohol.
  • Someone exposed himself, and another threw paint at the Oregon band.
