EUGENE, Ore. -- Eugene? Closed. Springfield? Closed? Bethel? Closed. Many school districts went back to class Wednesday and Thursday after a pair of snow days only to have a new storm prompt a fresh round of closures. | LATEST INFO

Eugene area students missed class 3 days out of 5. Unseasonably cold weather and clear blue sunny skies Tuesday turned Monday's powdery snow into sheets of polished ice and mounds of re-frozen slush. Classes never resumed in Crow, Applegate and Lorane after Monday's storm snuck up on the southern Willamette Valley.

Oakridge, Ore., schools were the first in the South Valley to announce via InfoFlash plans to close Friday, the last planned day of instruction for many school districts on the eve of a holiday break.

Classes in Oregon schools resume in January 2009, so the focus now shifts to school athletics, holiday travel and personal safety.

The University of Oregon and Oregon State opened at 10 a.m. Updates

Lane Community College is closed.

Eugene has declared a snow and ice emergency, meaning parking is banned on priority 1, 2 and 3 streets. | MAP
