EUGENE, Ore - Thousands of dollars worth of property stolen from University of Oregon student residents over the holiday break.

Now police think a fellow student committed as many as 20 of the more than 80 reported campus-area burglaries.

Police arrested Adam Klunder, 21, and charged him with first degree burglary.

Klunder has been identified as a University of Oregon student.

"He advised us he was a University of Oregon student, that he was there on a scholarship, and that he was short on money and was doing this in order to make ends meet," said Sergeant Jay Shadwick with the Eugene Police Department.

KVAL News visited Klunder's home. Nobody answered. Police told us Klunder lived alone and as far as they know, acted alone in these burglaries.

Undercover operation leads to arrest

Police arrested Klunder in an undercover investigation.

Sergeant Shadwick says a victim found what appeared to be her stolen snowboard being sold online and made arrangements to purchase the item at the home of the seller.

She showed up with detectives in tow.

They came across her snowboard. They also came across X-Boxes, flat screen TVs, and lots of other missing items. Police found receipts and think Klunder may have sold items on Craigslist and eBay. No word yet from police on whether those items are related to a reported crime.

"I think he was certainly surprised and a little nervous about what the outcome might be," said Sgt. Shadwick.

Klunder is being charged with first degree burglary charges, but Sgt. Shadwick says there will likely be more.

KVAL News spoke with the residents who lived in the other part of the shared household. Although they didn't know Klunder well, they're surprised the guy who lived behind their house would also be behind these crimes.

"There was no indication from his personality or anything he would do something this terrible," said Evan Collier. "He was a good guy."

Police will contact victims

Victims are currently being contacted by detectives to reunite them with their property and are asked to wait for notification prior to making inquiries on specific items recovered.

While connections are being made to multiple burglaries in this case, police suspect that there are other unrelated individuals who committed crimes in the recent winter burglary spree.

Police provided the following images of the recovered property:
