Passenger killed in crash on Jasper Lowell Road

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A Dexter man died Friday night when the pickup he was riding in ran off the road and smashed into a power pole.

Klint Rhea, 24, of Dexter, Ore., was ejected from the truck and died at the scene.

The driver was identified as Anthony Holcomb, 22, of Springfield, Ore.

The crash closed the road for 6 hours.

An earlier version of this story indicated the driver had died. That report was in error.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office along with Lowell Fire and Rescue responded to a traffic collision on Jasper Lowell Road.  Responding units located a 1997 Chevrolet truck on the east shoulder Jasper Lowell Road.  Responding personnel attended to the driver.

The vehicle was traveling northbound on Jasper Lowell Road when it left the roadway and collided with a power pole.  The passenger who was not wearing a seatbelt was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by responding fire personnel.

Investigating deputies believe that alcohol is a contributing factor in this traffic collision. The roadway was closed for approximately 6 hours.

The investigation is continuing by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
