Family says crash survivor making progress

Jakobi Mulgrave is now listed in serious condition at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland. He had been listed in critical condition since the accident one week ago. His father Hogon posted an update on a blog at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday. KVAL News asked for and received permission Tuesday to quote from the blog posts. "WONDERFUL NEWS!" Hogon wrote. "Jakobi has all of the tubes and IVs out except one. He is whispering and responding to our questions. "The physicians are highly impressed with Jakobi's progress," he continued, "and are extremely optimistic while still telling us to prepare for waves." There will be a fundraising event for the Moffitt Elementary School fourth grader at all three area Papa's Pizza Parlors on Wednesday, Feb. 11: West 11th and Coburg Road in Eugene and Main Street in Springfield. Papa's will donate 50 percent of the value of all food orders will be donated to the Jakobi Mulgrave Medical Fund to help pay for his medical costs. Crash deadliest in memory in Eugene Police have charged a Eugene man with four counts of manslaughter, driving under the influence and other charges related to the crash. A memorial for Nima Gibba, 11, will be held at noon Wednesday at Bethel Temple Faith Ministries on 18th Avenue in Eugene, Ore. A memorial for Heather Mulgrave, 36, of Springfield, Ore., is set for Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. at Willamette Christian Center followed by a catered reception at Body & Soul Dance Studio. Connie Vermilyea, 34, and her son Jaziah Vermilyea, 10, also died in the crash. A service is planned for Friday at 11 a.m. at West Lawn Memorial Park at 11th Avenue and Danebo Street. |
