Why more peanut butter recalls?
EUGENE, Ore. -- The peanut butter recall spread its way into local companies here in Oregon. GloryBee Foods and the Umpqua Dairy add their names to the recall list.
So why, more than month after the first people became sick, are there still more recalls?
The Food and Drug Administration traced the outbreak to a processing plant in Blakely, Georgia. The plant is owned and operated by the Peanut Corporation of America, this is how and where the salmonella spread so far and so fast.
The Peanut Corporation of America, or PCA, distributes peanut products to businesses and manufacturers all across the country. So now, local companies like the ones here in Oregon, are forced to recall and destroy their products because of one of their providers mistakes.
"We really have to raise the bar on who were doing business with." Dick Turanski, owner of GloryBee Foods said about his company recalling its products. At the Umpqua Dairy in Roseburg, spokesman Steve Feldkamp said the Dairy is recalling some of its ice cream flavors to ensure that customers are getting the safest and best products possible.
It is important to know that all of these are voluntary recalls, and none of these products have in fact tested positive for salmonella.
Although the companies are losing out on business they are gaining in reputation, customers have said they respect
the companies proactive measures, to protect consumers.
You can find the complete list of recalled products on the FDA Web site.
