NEAR WASHOUGAL, Wash. - Police have released sketches of two men believed to have been involved in a violent attack that left a 52-year-old man severely beaten.

The incident happened Monday near Dougan Falls, along the Washougal River.

Robert Tracey said he had gone there to do some cross-country skiing and was attacked by two men, who left him bloodied and badly injured and then apparently stole his SUV.

Tracey, who was badly injured, was fortunate that three local college students out for a hike happened upon him and were able to get help.

"Without the help of the three friends and the quick response of the neighborhood watch group in the Dougan Falls area, this incident may have had a very different outcome," said Skamania County Sheriff Dave Brown.

Tracey spent several days in the hospital before being released on Thursday.

Meanwhile, police have been searching for his attackers and detectives have been gathering information from local residents and others in the area in an attempt to identify the two men.

"There is no information that leads us to believe Mr. Tracey knew these two people and nothing to indicate this was anything other than a random attack and carjacking," said Skamania County Sheriff Dave Brown.

Two sketches have been released of the men police are looking for.  They are described as being in their mid 20s to early 30s, between 5 feet, 7 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a medium build.  Both were described as being of either Native American or Hispanic descent and one subject was described as having a lighter complexion than the other.

Tracey's SUV has not been located and police are hoping someone out there will spot it.  The vehicle is a 1998 Ford Explorer with Washington license plate number 455-YHY.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Skamania County detectives at (509) 427-9490.
