EUGENE, Ore. -- Over 5,000 runners and walkers were out to the streets of Eugene at 7:30 Wednesday morning for the 39th annual Butte to Butte.

The Butte to Butte features a 10k, 4.5 mile walk and a recently added 5k to start off the Fourth of July. Event organizers said that the 2012 Butte to Butte was the second largest turnout in the events history.

The male winner of today's 10k was recent-Eugene transplant Craig Leon. First over the finish line for the women was former-duck Bronwyn Crossman.

Racers participated in categories like age, teams, and OTC … even an alumni challenge. The top three finishers in their categories won prizes, with the top finishers in the 10k receiving a cash prize.
