GLENWOOD, Ore. --- Cougar is an almost 1-year-old domestic long-haired grey and white cat.

With no eyes.

Her story begins in northwest Eugene where Animal Control picked her up. She was malnourished, pregnant and only had one eye. In other times she may have been put down, but Lane County Animal Service fixed her up.

She was sent to a veterinarian for an exam. The vets determined a birth defect left Cougar with one eye -- and now her second would have to be removed due to medical circumstances.

During her treatment, vets spayed her, too. Then LCAS teamed up with West Coast Dog and Cat Rescue to get her adopted.

After healing ,she was sent to a pet adoption event, which is where she met Lisa Wall and two kittens she was fostering.

"She heard them crying and came looking," Wall said of what happened when Cougar met the young kittens.

"I opened the carrier, and she jumped right in and started cleaning them and taking care of them," Wall said of Cougar's immediate reaction when she came upon the kittens.

And after Cougar wouldn't leave the kittens, Wall asked to foster Cougar, too. Now all three cats live at Wall's home in Glenwood.

Without the ability to see, Cougar is able to get around surprisingly well, Wall said.

"It's hard to believe she can't see," Wall said. She plays with cat toys just like any other cat, although most are sound based.

Cougar moves gracefully around the house, slowly but surely, Wall said. She hasn't seen Cougar bump into anything or have any trouble getting around. "Sometimes I even feel like she is looking at me!" Wall said.

Cougar is still up for adoption. You can go to her adoption page by clicking here.
