Medford begs court to OK ban on panhandling

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — The Medford City Council has voted to appeal a ruling that overturned its anti-panhandling ordinance.

Jackson County Circuit Judge Lorenzo Mejia struck it down in March, saying the ban on begging at intersections and other spots violated the Oregon Constitution's free speech protection.

A city attorney says the appeal won't cost much to pursue because it will be built on the briefs prepared for the circuit court challenge.
