Affordable acupuncture

Eugene - It's a medical practice known to ease pain, relieve stress, and relax the body. Now, the owner of a local clinic has found a way to make acupuncture more affordable.

If you go on a one-on-one session, it could cost you up to 200 dollars. But an acupuncturist in Eugene has adopted a group-setting practice, cutting treatments to just about 20 dollars a person.

Rob Singer is the owner of Acupuncture For the People, where the name says it all. He takes up to four patients at a time and uses a sliding scale where clients pay according to their income.

"It's basically pay what you can. Everyone's financial situation is different. For the most part, it's whatever you feel like your financial situation can afford," Singer said.

He explains, it usually takes several treatments for the full benefits of acupuncture to take effect. That's why many of his patients say they're thankful for the smaller price tag.

"Because I've been experiencing pain for so long, I'm coming twice a week and so I wouldn't be able to do that if he didn't offer it at an affordable price," Lindsay Fowler, who goes to Singer for jaw pain, said.

"It feels really good. Once the first needle goes in, you get really relaxed and kind of a blissful feeling," Kara Spencer, a patient for three years, said.

Patients say, they don't mind the group setting. They feel like they still have their privacy and can still relax during the treatment.
